People come from all over southern
Illinois and southern Indiana for Gray's famous steaks and catfish.
A longtime favorite of visiting basketball and football fans, media,
and officials. I once heard famous Fairfield broadcaster Stan
David comment that he wished Red Hill hosted the sectional every
year so that he could make 3 trips to Gray's.
I have had some delicious ribeye here, but normally stick with the
cheeseburgers
and french fries.
Todd Gray owns this
restaurant and is a great supporter of Red Hill

Locally owned by the Frost family, the service is second to none and
the quality is top notch. Most food is purchased locally for
better quality.
If you're going to see a classic South Seven basketball match-up or
just traveling through this historic town...stop in here and have a
great steak! They also have TV's in the bar area to keep up on
your favorite sports teams! Most importantly, they are
reasonably priced!

steak. They begin at 8 oz. and you can
order up to a 32oz monster. Chicken and shrimp are also
available. The twice baked
potato is my favorite. Most can get by on the 8oz steak after
grazing the all you
can eat salad bar, a meal in it self. If you are a steak fan,
you can't go wrong
here.
There is no bar area to wait in, they take reservations on the
weekends. Call early
if you know you will be in town. Tough seat when the Illini
are home, or during
ISHA events.

My wife and I
make it a point to hit Gino's at least twice a year. Our favorite at
Gino's is their upside down (crust, meat, cheese, and then sauce on
top) deep dish pizza with cornbread style crust and one HUGE single
sausage patty. The atmosphere is great. You can scribble on the
walls with a crayon. The pizza is a little pricey at $18 but worth
every penny. If you want an appetizer, we recommend the Bruschetta.

Ramon's stands alone as the best
Mexican place in the Metro East. The atmosphere is Mexicano
all the way down to the mariachi band that plays from table to
table. The food is delectable and as spicy as you want it.
I recommend the Juevos Rancheros. GOOD STUFF! There is a
good selection of beer including some good Mexican imports such as
Dos XX and Modelo.

This is breaking
our own rule of Illinois locations only but if your in South Eastern
Illinois, make the trip over to Evansville to sample this fine
German cuisine. It's worth the trip. I did so twice during the
regional at NCOE two years ago. They have 25 beers on tap and over
120 different varieties of bottled beer. The schnitzel is
outstanding but my favorite was the smoked pork chop. Bring a hearty
appetite....SO MUCH FOOD!

This is my favorite place to eat in
the Metro East Area outside of the O'Fallon Imo's. Lotawata
offers some of the best cuts of steak you can get outside of a 4
star joint. I highly recommend the Porterhouse, cooked medium
rare. The best things on the menu are the Lotta Hotta BBQ
Wings. These drummies absolutely melt in your mouth and the
BBQ sauce is like heaven. Only a few miles from Collinsville,
Belleville, O'Fallon and East St. Louis, so if you are in the area
to see some big time football or Class AA hoops, Lotawata Creek is a
great place to stop.

If you have a game in Carmi
or Grayville, this is a great place to stop. In historic New
Harmony--a great place to spend a day, especially for history
buffs--the Tavern serves good sandwiches, cold beer, and some of the

In the winter you'll find peanuts on the tables and the shells on
the floor. Some tables are family-style and hold two or more

atmosphere. Divided in three sections: Oak-paneled lounge with
plenty of seating, family dining area, and banquet area. Also,

The prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays is the specialty. Cajun
sirloin is also good. Tenderloins as big as your head, and the

D'Arcy's may be the best all around
tavern/restaurant/bar in Springfield. Traditional Irish
favorites such as Irish Rover's Shepard's Pie, and Dublin Pot Roast
are served, but the real reason to come to D'Arcy's is for the
horseshoes. D'Arcy's is the undisputed best place to get a
horseshoe period. There is also a wide selection of cold beer.
