Played against the Pekin kids the last couple winters--nice players.

Mahomet-Seymour JH has a PG, Cory Noe, who is an exceptionally talented athlete. We don't play up a grade here so he's with the 7th graders all season. There's nothing he doesn't do well and is as tenacious a competitor as you'll see at any level. Sky's the limit. Brooks Coetzee is also a 7th grader--South African kid who's been here three years. Plays football, basketball and baseball and gets better at them every day. Big kid--dad is 6'5" 260 so he'll probably get taller. When he figures out how to really play basketball--it's over.

8th grade has some talented kids but none are "the man". 7 or 8 kids led them in scoring last year at some point.

I have to agree on Jack Strieker, my son (Jimmy Staab) played with him on the Illinois 12U baseball team that won the USSSA Junior All-State Games tournament in Fishers, Indiana this past summer. Jack is a impressive young pitcher, who can throw and also hit the ball. Not being a homer here, but a dotting father. I guess I have to nominate Jimmy Staab. 5'11, 160 lbs all around athlete. Plays slot back and outside linebacker in football (18 TD's in 6 games, center/power forward in basketball (18 pts and 15 rebounds/per game), runs roughly a 1 minute 11 second 400 meter dash (4 X 200 finished 2nd in state and 4 x 400 finsihed 6th), and was probably one of the top ten 12u and 13u baseball players in central Illinois if not the state. And there are a few more in his school that excell in one or more sports. Gavin Hawkins (Football Lineman), Wyatt Royce (Track and Football), Nat Doty (Basketball) and Jake Oakleaf (football) and Im probably missing a few.
Hard to see into the future, but the light seems pretty bright at the end of that tunnel.

This was a basketball thread when it was started several years ago.

    Default Doug Wallen

Doug Wallen is a great all around athlete. He is a 8th grader at St Matthews Catholic in Champaign. Does track, basketball and baseball. Won state in long jump and placed 2 nd in high jump last year. Is a great left hand baseball pitcher. His team placed 3rd in baseball this year. Played up for state in basketball for the 8th grade last year. Usually score 20-30 pts per game. Is about 6ft 2 and able to dunk.

I wish I still had a kid in Jr. High so I could throw his name out there like the rest of you guys.

I know you are talking boys but just thought I would throw this out there. Andy Kaufmann has adaughter in 6th grade that is playing most of the time on the eighth grade team and is really good. Shoots free throws like dad the last two games she made 25 in a row.

As opposed to the other threads where the posters name out their high school kids?

Haven't seen Altamont's 8th grade play yet, but have heard great things. Jacob Finn, Ryan Armstrong, and Trevor Cornett are names to keep an eye on.
