Sloppy game by both teams, as Avon downs Routt 5-3. Several errors and misplaced fly balls by both teams lead to most of the runs in the game. In the end, Avon took advantage of their opportunities better than Routt.

Routt will be the team to watch next year in central Illinois. Started 7 freshmen and sophomores and only 1 senior on a team that won 23-24 games. They have an 8th grader coming in that is ranked as the #2 outfielder in his class in Illinois and #10 nationally by Perfect Games. Kid threw 83, the best velocity of any player at a recent event in Atlanta. If Winters is able to come back to pitch next year(shoulder surgery last year), Routt's #1 pitcher might fall to their #3 next year. They should be pretty tough the next couple of years.

They may be better than Carrollton next year, but if the Hawks learn from this year and the pitching gets better than they'll be solid. Can't wait to see how that unfolds. Routt and Carrollton should be the class of their respective WIVC divisions. Is this 8th grader actually better than a fully healthy Winters? If so then Routt really could be the real deal in the state for 1A.

Agree that Routt and Carrollton will be two of the best next year. I know Carrollton returns a lot from this year's sectional run.

The Ronan kid is a different kid than Winters. More of a line drive type hitter right now, singles and doubles, as he has just started to hit a growth spurt. Lefty. Nasty, nasty curve ball. Was just unhittable in junior high where he threw multiple no hitters. Smooth outfielder that will run down everything. Winters is just a great hitter with loads of power. Teams wisely pitched around him this year. They will be fun to watch on the same team.
