Default Belleville East Tournament

This Tournament is loaded every year with great teams.

Cor Jesu grabs the overall #1 seed followed by Althoff, IWA, Freeburg, Nerinx Hall, and MD.

Some early thoughts...

An interesting first round match pits Quincy, the #7 seed, and MD, #6, in pool play.
One very good volleyball team will be headed to the siver bracket.

Keep in mind, this is the same tourney that sent state champions Freeburg to the bronze bracket and a 13th place finish last year.

If the 2 top seeds meet in the final it will match #4 for Althoff and Cor Jesu.

Breese Central gets the #15 seed (out of 18 teams). They can't be happy about that.

i wondered how they seeded the tourney. Did they use record?
i think Mt. Pulaski is seeded higher than Breese Central, 10th
Incarnate Word, Mt. Pulaski and Breese Central are in same pool. I do not understand how Mt. Pulaski can be seeded above Breese Central,
I guess they used records. I wonder about Collinsville and Ursuline also ahead of Breese Central. I do think things will sort themselves out
Last year Freeburg was in same pool with Parkway South and Breese Central and lost both matches and ended up in bronze flight then defeated Gibault and Mt. Pulaski and eventually Belleville West.
It is a very loaded field.

If they seed anything like the Crossroads, we make sure that conference opponents (or area rivals) do not meet in any pool play or in the first round of bracket play. That can sometimes cause what might appear to be seeding issues. (ie - Effingham/Newton, Visitation/Nerinx, Chatard/Center Grove)

I do. will post it a little later today.
Having seen Freeburg play on multiple occasions this year...ahh, nevermind.
And, having seen Central play on multiple occasions this year, Central is seeded about right, considering the strength of this tournament. Wesclin and Carlyle took Central to 3 games in matches last week. when Central serves well, they're pretty good. When not, they really struggle.

Go to this webpage in the Belleville East Website:

http://ww2.bths201.org/east/departme...php?q=mainpage

On this webpage click on Metro Volleyball Tournament Schedule highlighted in green in middle of page. You will get a pdf format and sideways and i cannot get my turned right side up yet.
I believe your analysis of Central but Mt. Pulaski who is a very good 1A team has not shown to be any better than Central, i also wonder about Ursuline. It will sort itself out I am sure as there are many quality teams. Quincy is good as i saw them in summer a few times, but curious to see how they match up with Mater Dei as that is their match on Friday.
Hey i figure out how to turn page right side up. Just to the right of the - percent + on tool bar is the page turner. Easier for me to right side up.

On this tournament, Mater Dei picked up a nice win last night, beating St. Joe's out of St. Louis in three games. This is such a young MD team, but man are they good. Two sophomores led them in hitting in the win.

On the main courts both Althoff and Cor Jesu advanced. West and Ursuline grab the silver spots.

Quincy-Md?

Any other results?

Locals fare well at East volleyball tournament
Mater Dei, Althoff and Freeburg all win their pools
News-Democrat

BELLEVILLE -- Althoff, Mater Dei and Freeburg all won their respective pools Friday during first-day action at the 12th annual Belleville East Metro Classic Volleyball Tournament.

Defending champion Althoff beat Ursuline 25-11, 25-18 and Collinsville 25-9, 25-13 to win Pool 2 and move into the gold bracket today. The Crusaders will face Incarnate Word at 10:15 a.m., then tackle rival Mater Dei at 11:30 a.m.

The championship match is set for 2:15 p.m. at East.

Mater Dei edged Quincy 25-17, 13-25, 25-19 and bombed Gibault 25-15, 25-12 to win Pool 6. Defending Class 2A champion Freeburg, which took 13th last year at the Metro Classic, fought past Normal University High 26-24, 28-26 before routing Parkway West 25-15, 25-9 to win Pool 4.

Other pool winners were top-seeded Cor Jesu, Incarnate Word and Normal Community.

Belleville West split a pair of match and moved into the silver division. The Maroons defeated Parkway South 25-20, 25-19 and lost to Cor Jesu 25-20, 25-17.

Belleville East went 0-2, losing to Normal Community and Nerinx Hall, and was shipped to the bronze bracket.

Someone probably has exact results. Here is what I know.
In one number one pool
Freeburg d. Normal Community
Cor Jesu lost game one to Freeburg but came back to when last two games. Game three was a surprising blowout. Perhaps playing back to matches wore on Freeburg are the middles for Cor Jesu can wear anybody out. Very aggressive attacking team. Outstanding floor defense.
Cor Jesu d. Normal Community
Other number one pol
Mater Dei d. Incarnate Word Academy in possibly three games.
Althoff lost game one but came back to d. IWA in three games.
Althoff d. Mater Dei in three games. 25-16, 19-25, 25-18.
Therefore:
Normal Community v. IWA for 5th place---Gold Fifth
Freeburg v. Mater Dei for 3rd place---Gold Third
Cor Jesu v. Althoff for 1st place----Gold First
The Mater Dei and Althoff was the last match in main gym and finished after finals were to start so someone else possibly knows who won these matches.
In one of the pools of second place
Breese Central lost to both Quincy and Ursuline in close three games. Breese Central had d. Mt. Pulaski in two games on Friday and lost to IWA in three close games.
I think Quincy d. Ursuline in other match not sure
In the other pool of second place teams
Nerinx Hall d. Normal University High
Nerinx Hall d. Belleville West
Normal U High d. Belleville West
so the final matches for those pools
Silver Fifth ----11th place is Breese Central v. Belleville West
Silver Third ----9th place Normal U High v. either Quincy or Ursuline
Silver First-----7th place Nerinx Hall v. either Quincy or Ursuline
In the pool of 3rd place teams
Mt. Pulaski d. Collinsville
Mt. Pulaski d. Gibault
Collinsville d. Gibault
the other pool of 3rd place teams included Parkway West, Parkway South and Belleville East and i have no idea who won
Bronze First---13th place Mt. Pulaski v.
Bronze Third----15th place Collinsville v.
Bronze Fifth-----17th place Gibault
Hope i can write more later about Althoff, Mater Dei and Freeburg as they provide alot of food for thought. Could not stay to see Freeburg-Mater Dei, i think that would be very interesting match.

Mater Dei beat Freeburg in 3 games for third. Incarnate beat Althoff in 3 after Althoff won game one 25-9.
I also know Central beat Belleville West in the 11th place match.
