Roosevelt and the Eagles will be on ESPNU again tomorrow night in the AAU Super Showcase championship game against Austin Rivers (son of Doc) and Each 1 Teach 1. Hopefully they are rested for this game. They avenged the Peach Jam loss to Team Takeover to make it to the finals.

From ESPNRise.com:

Quote:
The Long Island Lightning (Levittown, N.Y.) looked to be ready to pull away in the fourth quarter of their contest against the St. Louis Eagles (St. Louis, Mo.), but St. Louis kept it close late. A huge 3-pointer by junior Roosevelt Jones cut Long Island’s lead to one with less than a minute to play, and on the team’s next possession senior Aaron Adeoye came through with a huge hoop inside. With 11 seconds to play, two free throws by Jones extended the St. Louis lead to three, and a buzzer-beating effort by Long Island fell short, sending the Eagles to the semifinals.

Shaquille Boga hit the three FWIW. Roosevelt did hit two clutch FTs though.

Eagles lost to E1T1 by quite a bit. They cut it to 6 and had an over-and-back call called on them that was questionable that led to an and-one. After that the momentum that the Eagles had built up was taken right away from them. They played hard but number 3 from Each one Teach one did a tremendous job on Brad Beal. That is the main reason why St. Louis could not get going.

Ben McLemore should be on ESPN tonight for the Posterization he did on an opponent. It was an amazing dunk to see live.

Austin Rivers is so smooth, great player, superior to Beal which was clear in this game.

3 shut Beal down, and 4 went nuts in the 3rd and the Eagles tried to come back but couldn't. I thought Jones did well on Rivers defensively. McLemore is very good and will make some college coach very happy when he signs his LOI. He rattled off a ton of schools after the game.

Rivers is very smooth, makes the game look easy. Good chance he'll be #1 when the new ESPN rankings come out in Sept. We'll see.

Didn't Beal get teh best of Rivers twice this year. You could not tell from this game, but I like Beal better than Rivers. iirc, Rivers is a year and some change older than Beal also. Rivers takes a lot of questionable shots. I will say, Beal didn't look like he could guard me in that game. #3 is Comer, who plays with Rivers in hs. #4 is Trevor Lacey from Alabama.

That was there second meeting this year. They each scored 35-40 points in the prior meeting. Hard to say who got the better. All I can say is I like Austin's complete game better than Brads.

Comer, Adam Jones, and Rivers all team up @ winterpark highschool. They have got to be one of the best if not , the best high school team in the nation.

Jones graduated and will be going to prep school. Look for Oak Hill and Findlay among the best "high school teams" this year. Winter Park will be good though. Almost forgot about Whitney Young.

imo, Rivers is the better one-on-one player. I like Beal's ability to get his within the offensive flow. Neither play Gary Payton defense.

With all of this Roosevelt Jones talk how about the Panthers of OTOWN this season? I know Jones packs quite a punch. What else do they have?

Here's what the folks at the State Farm Tourney of Champions has to say about O'Fallon this year:

Quote:
O'FALLON PANTHERS, O'FALLON, IL .: The Panthers return to the MMCI as defending champions and 4th place finishers in Illinois' 4A State Tournament. The young Panthers were dominant last season, as they cruised to a 31-4 record. But, if you ask "Hoops Fans" in Southwestern Illinois about O'Fallon's upcoming season, they will say- the best is yet to come for this team from the Metro-East Area. Last season's Methodist Medical Center Invitational MVP- 6'4" Sr. Roosevelt Jones is the top returnee for the Panthers. Jones averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds per outing last season and is committed to play collegiately for the NCAA runner up- Butler Bulldogs. The Panthers also return 6'5" Sr. Charles Joy (SIU-Edwardsville), 6'0" Sr. Joshua Buie and 5'10" Jr. Roy Bullock. Joy is an athletic wing who excels in transition. Buie is an exceptional player during crunch time. He plays with ice water in his veins as he shows zero fear on either side of the court when the game is on the line. Bullock can bury the perimeter jumper and is a heady point man for the Panthers.
Pretty good writeup. Beyond the 4 they mention, Mayfield will probably start.
