The Lady Toppers won over Clinton tonight in three games. The Toppers won the first game 25-23, lost the second 28-26, and won the third 25-21. The Toppers were without their starting outside hitter, Haley Bowels, who suffered a sprained ankle during Tuesday's game at Warrensburg. Her absence was greatly missed.
In the first two games the Toppers jumped ahead by as much as 6 points, but the Maroons chipped away to tie it several times. The third game was a trade of points all the way until the end. Not a pretty win, but a win that puts the Lady Toppers at 4-0. Next week they meet Riverton and Auburn and the MP Fall Festival Tournament next weekend. |

Any one know the name of #33 on Williamsville's varsity team? If that young lady doesn't get some awards at the end of the season...I'll be surprised. I've played many years of volleyball in my younger days, coached and now enjoy watching in my older days
and she is one of the best setters I have watched......she has mastered the art of of setting!!!! |

There are no favorites in the NTC homecourt might be very important, and some teams do not play till after conference tourney, so seeding in conf tourney will be interesting, Neoga and Dieterich are unbeaten i think,
Salem d. Newton 25-14, 21-25, 25-17 In game one Salem scored on 12 kills/stuffs, 5 New reception errs, 4 New Att errs Newton scored on 5 kills, 3 Sal att errs, 4 Sal serve errs, 0 Sal rec errs Jennifer Williams jr. 5-10 high jumping middle for Salem had 4 kills and one stuff Newton dug a number of her attacks but she was main thrust at the net for Salem, Bailey Cook a 5-7 jr. setter ran a very smooth Salem offense, Cook in this game and other games had some very well timed dumps for points. Salem lead throughout pushing taking a 5-4 lead to 9-5 and Newton got no closer than four points there. After trailing 5-4 Newton lost 6 of next 7 points on a net violation, three attack errors and two receive errors and Salem controlled match from there with Williams and Alissa DeWitt jr. 5-9 left side hitter getting some big kills when Salem might be losing momentum. in game two Salem scored on 13 kills/stuffs, 2 N att errs, 6 N rec errs while Newton scored on 10 kills stuffs, 5 S att errs, 5 rec errs In game two Newton trailed again most of game but after trailing 20-16 they scored 9 of next 10 points for win. Newton scored on 4 kills, 2 S Atterrs, 2 S Recerrs and one alignment. the latter portion of game two the three Newton seniors began to take over play and the sophomores and juniors for Newton settled down on reception. the other key was the game within a game. Kim Wallace has been setting and starting for Newton as a freshman. She has become an outstanding hitter, receiver, setter and blocker. Newton is lacking a few inches across the board v. Salem. Simply in game two Wallin matched up at the net whervever Williams was. Wallin can jump, has long arms and is the best block newton can put on Williams. It did not stop Williams but did slow her down but Williams did have 3 kills and a stuff in that game. Two of the more exciting net plays of match occurred back to back with Salem leading 13-9 as Wallace stuffed a Williams right side attack and on next rally Williams stuffed a Wallace left side attack. both girls patrol the net like a cougar or maybe a wildcat, but Williams is a natural middle, while Wallace was blocking wherever the Williams attack was present. In game three Newton was still having major trouble with Salems top spin serving as they had 6 reception errors and a number of free balls given to Salem. Salem scored on 6 kills, 6 N Att errs, 7 N rec errs Newton scored on 8 kills, 3 S att errs, 4 S rec errs Salem went out to 6-1, 10-3, 19-7 and 21-9 leads. When the Sophomore Tera Flowers came up to serve at 21-9 Newton sided out on back row kill by Koebele and got 7 more points from Flowers on serve to move within 21-17, Salem had three reception errors and two attack errors and Newton kills by Wallace and Keller. A service error ended run and Salem finished with final points. Both of these teams are good but still developing, Willaims in the middle stands out for Salem with her hitting and blocking skills and Salem does not have a senior in their main rotation. Bailey Hester soph. and Alissa DeWitt jr. play outside left and provide solid spiking there. Williams and Kayla Johnson another jr. anchor the middle, Blair Monroe and Jaime Blair take one right side position front and back, while the setter Bailey Cook sets all spots. Cook has very good hands and sets with apparent ease. She is one of the smoother setters i have seen in this young season and sets up her hitters very well and had some very well timed dumps throughout match. The right side is all juniors. one sophomore Katelyn Sager possibly injured had taped ankle area, did not play, i thought she played some in summer with varsity group, but i can be wrong. Sager is listed as right side/ middle. Salem is all juniors and sophomores and wil get better. For Newton Wallace, Hahn and Koebele are seniors and i am familiar with. the remainder of team is new to me. One other senior Lucy Emmerich plays alot back row. The remaining combinations were underclasswomen. Soph Tera Flowers combined with (possible freshman as varsity number not listed but as freshman ) Sydney May MH, Hillary Keller jr with Lucy Emmerich sr., Beth Helmink soph with Nicole Shackman soph. Perhaps someone knows if May played in front row, as Newton was also rotating in Brianna Nail jr., so 10-11 players were seeing plenty of action for Newton. with all those young players Newton should get much better as well and with Wallace and Hahn and Koebele playing all the time the leadership will be there. ![]() Last edited by greenpeace; 09-11-2009 at 12:25 AM. |
