Statewide-
Monday 5.29.2006 - Illinois Class A baseball sectionals
and super-sectionals
were capped off with several exciting wins this week, led
by IHSS's #1-rated team, IVC (pics courtesy
of Mid-Illini.com) steam
rolling Coal City 8-0 at the Illinois Wesleyan super-sectional game. The
Grey Ghost's outstanding freshman pitcher, Chris Razo, threw a 7-inning
complete game no-hitter in front of a large IVC crowd at Jack Horenberger Field. IVC runs their record to
37-2 on the year.
The Cahokia Conference impressed
many as it sends two representatives, Columbia and
Trenton-Wesclin, both to the Class A Elite 8 in Joliet with wins
over highly-touted teams. Columbia defeated IHSS's #6 rated team, the
Williamsville Bullets, 8-5 on Mondayat Sauget. Williamsville
had previously defeated the Triopia Trojans for the Pleasant
Plains Sectional championship. Wesclin dispatched IHSS's #4-rated
team, the Shelbyville Rams, by winning a close contest, 4-3, at the
Charleston (EIU) Super-sectional.
IHSS's #5-rated team, the Carmi-White
County Bulldogs, defeated a scrappy DuQuoin Indian ballclub, 2-0, on
the pitching performance of Keegan
Dennis, who offset a 16 strike-out 5-hit performance by DQ's Bryant
George with 10 K's and a 3-hit shutout of his own!
IHSS's #2-ranked squad, Addison
Driscoll, pummeled the perennial Class A baseball powerhouse, Herscher,
7-0, thanks to a big inning for the Highlanders. The Herscher Tiger
pitching was nails but the sticks were a tad quiet in the loss.
