this HUGE South Seven Conference matchup where the
Comanches of Cahokia, ranked #8 in IHSS's latest 5A poll, were
thoroughly dominated by the Marion Wildcats, who are ranked
#10 in 5A according to IHSS pollsters. Read Matt
Hawkin's article about the game at the Marion Daily
Republican
Online.
Adam Byrne was Marion's biggest running
threat, rushing for 112 yards and two
touchdowns. Here, he is tripped up by Cahokia's
Myron Washington (8) as Ryan Smith gives
chase.
Thomas Winters takes advantage
of some early running room. This much space was
at a premium for Cahokia, which had just six
first
downs, none in the second half. The Comanches only score came on
a 65-yard slant pass in the first
quarter.
Danny
Chapman turns upfield for some of his 28 yards rushing, all
coming in the first half.
Week four established the Calhoun
Warriors are a very balanced team that can gain five
yards and a cloud of dust with #3
Sr FB David Moser
(punishing runner) up the gut, or gain six yards by
breaking the counter to #24
Sr. RB Joe Brackett. Moser
had 25 carries for 166 yards and three touchdowns. The
Warriors also have the ability to throw over the top and burn
you deep if #9
So. QB David Ballmanhooks up with
#84
6'5" Sr. WR Sean Nelson. Calhoun is a talented and
well-coached team as second-year head coach Glenn Peyton has
the Warriors at 4-0 and focused on making a deep run in the
playoffs. Baalman had touchdown strikes to #81
Sr. WR Kevin Behrens (53 yards) and Sean Nelson (12 yards).
Joe Brackett also had a TD run (13 yards) in the second
quarter.
Baalman finished 6 of 7 through the air for
131 yards. The Warriors produced 372 yards of total offense.
North Greene got TD runs of 64 and 54 yards from Jon Havlin
and Jamie Damm, respectively. Havlin's run in the second
quarter cut Calhoun's lead to 8-6, but Calhoun scored four
straight TDs. The Spartans defense was over-matched against
Calhoun's' offense but North Greene definitely has a couple
very nice skill players in #5
Sr RB Jon Havlin and
#19
Sr. RB Jamie
Damm.
Second year
Calhoun head coach Glenn Peyton. Peyton has led the Warriors
to a 4-0 start and a #7 IHSS ranking in Class
1A.
Calhoun's #3
Sr. FB David Moser is a powerful runner who was breaking
tackles on his way to 3 TD's.
#9 SOPH QB
David Baalman threw touchdown strikes to #81 Kevin Behrens (53
yards) and #84 Sean Nelson (12
yards)...

Shane Conaway runs the
Trojans past the Dawgs, 34-14
Week three match-ups included the
biggest game in central Illinois, as the 2A juggernaut known
as the Maroa-Forsyth
Trojans, led by their all-state Sr.
QB Luke Hockaday and their elusive Sr.
RB Shane Conaway, took on their 4A
arch-rivals, the Decatur St. Teresa Bulldogs. Conaway and Co. handed
the Dawgs
their first loss of the season, 34-14,
as Shane rushed for three TD's and over 240 yards on the night.
Maroa's
defense was outstanding as well, holding
St.
Teresa's all-state Sr. RB Sean Dunning to less
than 120 yards on 27 carries. Yours truly was on the
sideline at this hotly-contested game were an estimated
4000
fans were in attendance to cheer on their
favorite team. Check out fifty-six high-quality IHSS

A very competitive game that was determined
by turnovers. Mt. Olive ran the I-formation and played
smash-mouth football running trap plays and veers off-tackle
all night. #40 5'9" 220lb SOPH Paul
Rademacher, is THE next power back for the Wildcats
that opponents will have to try and slow down this year and
the next two seasons! Behind Mt. Olive's huge and experienced
offensive line, Rademacher ran for 115 yards on 22 carries.
Sr. #89 Kyle Eller capped off a 74 yard drive by
bursting into the corner of the south endzone on a sweep
towards the Auburn sideline.
Mt.
Olive's Sr. fullback #17 Phil Gielow
took care of business in the 2nd half, rushing off tackle to
the right (strong side) and picking up 7-8 yards and a cloud
of dust four plays in a row. Gielow also secured the victory
for Mt. Olive by picking off a Kurt Dudley
pass with two minutes to play as Auburn was
driving.
Wildcats coach Don Dobrino is a legend in IHSA
football.
Sr. fullback #17 Phil Gielow rushed for over 1000
yards in 2005, leading the Wildcats to a semi-final
appearance in 1A.
