IHSS Affiliation: Payton is sponsored by IHSS Member maroon 93
Payton Woods had an exemplary athletic career as a Champaign Central Maroon–dominating in cross country, swimming, and track and field. As a runner, Woods was a 2-time sectional qualifier in cross country and a 3-time state qualifier in the spring. In the pool, Woods distanced himself from the rest.
As a 4-year letter winner and 2-time ALL-AMERICAN, Payton Woods was a 14-time state qualifier including multiple placings and a state championship. He holds school records in the 50 freestyle and 200 medley relay. He was 16-time All-Conference and 2-time team MVP.
His academics stood alone, but the time Payton found for community service is also impressive. Woods served the greater Champaign area as an adapted PE Volunteer, Indian Acres Day Camp Volunteer, swim coach for day campers, serving breakfasts at church and mowing lawns/shoveling snow for the elderly.
It’s now very easy to see why Payton Woods is the Steven Rheinecker Memorial Scholarship Winner.
Payton will attend Michigan State University in the fall.
